Coffee and TV - Blur: An Analysis Using Barthes

Using Roland Barthes narrative codes, we analysed the form of Blur's music video for Coffee and TV in order to understand the conventions of a music video.

-  Enigma - what is the aim of the milk carton and why/where is it going.
-  Symbolic - the threat that the 'outside world' poses
-  Cultural - The picture on the milk carton
-  Action -  the destruction of the 'female' milk carton                                                         -  Semic - represented through the themes of coming-of-age and running away from responsibilities



We hope to reinforce our own narrative themes using these codes.
